Amlapitta is a traditional Ayurvedic term used to describe a pattern of digestive disturbance in which excessive sourness and burning sensations are prominent. In everyday language, people may relate these symptoms to hyperacidity, heartburn or acid reflux, although Amlapitta and modern medical diagnoses are not exact one-to-one equivalents.
In Ayurveda, digestion is closely connected with Agni, or digestive fire. When dietary habits, irregular meals, stress, poor sleep or other factors disturb digestion and aggravate Pitta, symptoms such as sour belching, nausea, burning in the chest or upper abdomen and acid regurgitation may occur. Understanding the pattern of symptoms is important because persistent reflux-like symptoms can also have medical causes that need evaluation.
Diet and routine are therefore central to the Ayurvedic approach to Amlapitta. Gentle meals, regular eating times, adequate sleep and avoiding known dietary triggers may help reduce digestive irritation. Persistent, severe or changing symptoms should not be managed solely with home remedies.
